Jon,
Ahh, it’s great to see that you did the race around the world! I recall my first trip down, only days after arriving I heard about the race and had to do it - finishing was about all I could do since that day was excruciatingly cold, and I was fully dressed in ECW gear with bunny boots and all, and hadn’t figured out that it was better to run a little wider to take advantage of the packed skiway instead of the inside line in the deeper snow.
Now the next big thing is the planting of the pole marker at the stroke of midnight for the new year. Don’t miss this, as it’s a truly unique experience and it hits you where you are, at the true south pole, and celebrating new years under bright sunlight is pretty cool, too.
Of course, if you wish you can also celebrate New Year’s once for each timezone, following the path of the point opposite the sun around the world.
